Q1: Who is eligible to participate in the drone competition?
  • A1: The competition is open to students from middle schools AND high schools. 
Q2: How can a school register for the competition?
  • A2: Schools can register by filling out the registration form available on the Drones4water.com website. 
Q3: Are there any fees associated with participation?
  • A3: Yes, there is a participation fee for each team. However, schools can opt for an 'Intent to Pay Later' agreement if they are needing delayed payment.
Q4: What are the drone specifications for the competition?
  • A4: Specific drone models and technical requirements are detailed in the curriculum.  Indoor competition is small Tello style drones.  Outdoor competition is for larger greater than .55 pound drones. Generally, drones should not exceed a certain size and weight limit and must comply with FAA regulations.
Q5: What type of competitions and challenges will be included?
  • A5: The competition will feature various challenges, including camera courses, timed flights, and precision tasks. Detailed information will be provided in the curriculum.
Q6: Are there any safety guidelines that participants must follow?
  • A6: Safety is our top priority. All participants must adhere to strict safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear and following all drone operation regulations.
Q7: Will there be prizes or awards for winners?
  • A7: Yes, there will be awards and recognition for top-performing teams and individuals in various categories.
Q8: How can participants prepare for the competition?
  • A8: Teams are encouraged to practice drone flying skills, familiarize themselves with competition rules, utilize the full curriculum, and reach out to Iconic Drone if training is needed.
Q9: Can parents and spectators attend the event?
  • A9: Yes, we welcome parents and spectators to attend and support their teams. 
Q10: What happens if a school cannot make the payment by the agreed deadline?
  • A10: Schools that have opted for the 'Intent to Pay Later' agreement must ensure payment is made by March 15, 2024. Failure to comply may result in cancellation of participation and potential liability for incurred costs.
Q11: Will there be any educational sessions or workshops during the competition?
  • A11: Yes, the event will include public/teacher educational sessions covering drone technology, safety, and career opportunities in drone-related fields.
Q12: How can schools or sponsors get more information or support?

Q13: What if my team does not have drones for this competition?
  • A13: Iconic Drone can help.  We have a full inventory of indoor and outdoor drone equipment.  Call our sales manager at: 210-850-7230.​
Q14: Is there a competition kit I need to practice?
  • Yes, both indoor and outdoor have practice kits you can purchase in the registration or use our quote tool to request a full detailed quote.  We recommend calling our sales manager for more details: 210-850-7230.
Q15: Where and when will the event be held?
  • May 3, 2024 (Indoor Drones) and May 4, 2024 (Outdoor Dromes) at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio.
